The Shadani Race:
The Shadani are a race based atop the Brai Mountain Range. They are the keepers of the Synoahani, an old sect of Eldeiran that once threatened the world and the very Goddesses themselves, but were since banished to eternal slumber beneath the Brai. The Temple of the Twin Moons sits atop the mountain peaks and acts as the barrier that binds the Temporal Realm closed and keeps the slumbering tyrants locked away. Shadani villages lie in the valleys of the Brai, protected by the Rune Reavers but constantly under attack by Naga and mountain-dwelling Zhakra-ka that seek to take the land or the Synoahani for their own.

Many other races despise and/or fear the Shadani for their Chaotic powers and secretive nature. Their history with the Elves of Nara is rocky, and their is constant hostility between them. Not many travelers dare venture close to the Brai Mountains, and those who do avoid the Temple and villages at all costs. The Shadani will only help Travelers of the Fularen race, or those from the Sathari Desert that do not bare a threat. Any who stumble across the Temple without permission are quickly attacked by the Rune Reavers and either killed or escorted away. The Shadani want nothing to do with the outside world.


Rune Reavers:
Shadani proficient in hand-to-hand and melee combat. They know very few magical skills, if any at all, but prefer the use of blades and pole-arms. These are the protectors of the Shadani, both the villagers and the Shadow Casters and Initiates of the Temple. Without them, the Shadani people would crumble beneath the weight of assaults from various enemies, both from the grasslands to the north and the desert to the south.

These Shadani are intelligent in combat, often excelling in tactics as well as assault. They rely heavily on their Sight, provided by the Eye in their forehead, and must know the different auras an enemy can take when in battle. They have quick reflexes and are often merciless, stopping at nothing until an enemy is dead or surrenders.

Most Rune Reavers are male, though there have been a small few female Rune Reavers, such as the late Lady Malia'Anthressa. A female Shadani must be exceptionally better than a male counterpart to be considered for a Rune Reaver position at all.

The High Rune Reaver is a Shadani that has excelled past others in combat and strategy, and that has shown exceptional leadership and bravery. There is only one High Rune Reaver, and he or she is the one who will train rising Rune Reavers to protect the temple. They are a member of the council, and considered the head of the Reavers, commanding them to battle when and where it is appropriate. The current High Rune Reaver is Souhl'Oathys, chosen by the Lady Anthressa herself.


Shadow Casters:
Specializing in Chaotic and Celestial magics, the Shadow Casters are the ones who protect the Runes that seal the Temporal Realm and keep the Synoahani slumbering. They power the Runes and are researching how to keep the magic in the Runes they can no longer empower. Due to the fact that Shadani can no longer harness magics of Order, Nature, and Neutral alignments, they must find a way to keep the Runes corresponding to these magics.

Most Shadow Casters prefer Wind and Lightning elements, though some specialize in Illusion and Sight of the Celestial spells. Only a small few Shadow Casters have mastered the magics of Blood, as this is most often reserved for Rune Reavers. These "Blood" Casters are often called to the battlefield to assist in ranged combat, and are greatly feared and respected. Both male and female Shadow Casters are common.

Travelers who seek out the Shadani Temple often do so to speak with the Shadow Casters dealing in Sight magic, as they are able to receive visions of the future. Unfortunately, the Shadani dislike doing this for others and often turn the travelers away. There are one or two Seers that leave the Temple to offer this service to others, however, and are usually looked down upon by other Shadani.

The High Shadow Caster is the most powerful of the Shadani, harnessing all forms of Chaotic and Celestial magics. He or she is the head of the Shadow Caster Council and is expected to keep watch over the Runes and those that must power them. This position is also a part of the High Council, and many High Rune Casters become the head of the council. They are very knowledgeable of the outside world and offer their input during times of war. To become the High Shadow Caster, one must show mastery of all magics available to a Caster and must have a level head in a dangerous situation, as the Shadow Casters are the last ring of defense between attackers and the Runes of Power. The current High Rune Caster is Nahk'Centis, who has unlocked the secret of Natural magic.


The High Council:
The High Council is made up of twelve Shadani; a leader from every Shadani village, the High Shadow Caster, the High Rune Reaver and the High Councilor. When in the case of Lady Malia'Anthressa, where the High Rune Reaver, High Shadow Caster, and High Councilor are all filled by the same Shadani, the remaining places are taken by highly respected Rune Reavers or Shadow Casters of the circles. These positions can also be filled by a right-hand of any of the village leaders. Only once in the history of the Temple has an outsider ever filled a Council position; a human sorcerer discovered and rescued by the High Lady herself.

The current High Council is filled by Nahk'Centis as High Shadow Caster and High Councilor; Souhl'Oathys as High Rune Reaver; Malthas Stoneblade, a human sorcerer appointed by the Council after the passing of Lady Anthressa; and a leader from each of the nine Shadani villages.
